Which AR-10 parts fit DPMS and Armalite rifles?

Unlike the AR-15, the .308 AR has no single standard. Most parts follow the DPMS (LR-308) pattern, which itself comes in high and low profile, and Armalite's AR-10 is its own pattern.

The Short Answer

  • Pick a pattern first and buy the upper, lower, handguard, bolt carrier and charging handle to match.
  • The barrel nut threads differ (DPMS 1-7/16"-16, Armalite 1-7/16"-18), so handguards don't cross over.
  • DPMS high and low-profile parts mostly mix, but the handguard's top rail may not line up exactly with the receiver.
  • Lower parts kits differ too: the bolt catch and mag catch are pattern-specific.
